Susan grew up near Bristol and studied geography at Girton College, Cambridge. Following her first marriage she spent some years abroad living in the Netherlands, where she had a daughter, Indonesia and Egypt. After returning to the UK to live in Lewes she got heavily involved in campaigning on democracy, peace and green issues and found a like-minded second husband in Roger. He has been a huge support in politics and life, especially as Susan has struggled with disabilities due to rheumatoid arthritis. Susan was elected to the town council in 2007 and has been active on many committees, especially, planning which she has chaired for a number of years, the Landport Bottom and All Saints steering committees, finance and the plastic-free group. She has also been active in the wider community, running the Landport Youth Centre and helping with the local food bank, as well as her involvement with Transition Town Lewes and the Lewes Pound. In 2015/16 she was very proud to be Mayor Lewes and she is now loving supporting the current Mayor as Deputy Mayor and being grandma to Coco
