Lewes’ Senior Citizens celebrate the upcoming coronation at a Tea Party with the Mayor

Over 150 senior citizens joined the Mayor of Lewes for an afternoon of sandwiches, tea and cake at Lewes Town Hall to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III

Organised by Lewes Town Council, the free event on Wednesday 26 April was open to all senior citizens in the town and included refreshments and piano entertainment, with rousing renditions of Land of Hope and Glory and Auld Lang Syne amongst many other popular tunes.

The Mayor and guests were joined by the High Sheriff of East Sussex, Richard Bickersteth, whilst staff and councillors served tea, coffee and platters of fresh sandwiches, pastries and cakes. Amongst the guests were groups from a number of local care homes and support groups.

Speaking about the event, the Mayor, Shirley-Anne Sains, said: “It is an honour to host the senior citizens and to celebrate the upcoming coronation.  Events like this are such a brilliant chance to bring people together to celebrate in our town and community.”

The event was one of a series of initiatives in Lewes to celebrate the coronation, which also includes town council funding for a wildflower corridor through the town in partnership with Wildflower Lewes, a shop window display competition and a further tea party event for primary school children.
