Lewes Town Council is excited to announce that we’ve taken on responsibility for the Christmas lights in the town this year, with new designs for the festive lights that adorn our lampposts, which were put up yesterday along with the Christmas trees at the War Memorial and in Cliffe Precinct.

Hosting Christmas lights means a lot to Lewes Town Council and our residents. Despite funding from other sources who contributed to the cost and planning of the Christmas lights being cut, the Town Council were keen to maintain the tradition of lighting up the town, particularly during a difficult winter.

The Mayor said “I’m really glad the Town Council are able to fund and provide Christmas lights for Lewes when others haven’t been able to.

“This year we are planning a small switch on event at the Town Hall, and I hope that next year we’ll be able to have a full Christmas lights switch on.”

Plans to have ornate light displays in the centre of town have always been challenging in Lewes. The unique rooflines of Lewes High Street and Cliffe High Street mean that creating elaborate light structures is difficult and costly, requiring significant technical and legal input.
