This summer, taking care of yourself has never been more of a priority and with the Olympics starting and the Paralympics round the corner, there’s no shortage of inspiration. Lewes Town Council are helping to make it easier than ever, but supporting low-cost exercise opportunities, and championing healthcare around the town.
The Town Council owns the land where the famous Pells Pool in Lewes is situated. The pool is managed by a community trust which receives an annual grant from the Town Council, helping to keep costs of outdoor swimming low during the pool’s summer and autumn seasons. Lane swimming can be booked during the morning sessions, with a 10am Gentle Swim for those who want to keep it low key, and in the afternoons the pool is open to all ages to enjoy the water. Book a swim now via the Pells Pool website.
Recently, parkrun has launched in Lewes. The global charity organises free, weekly, community runs in outdoor spaces all around the world. In Lewes, the outdoor space where the weekly 5k run starts is on Malling Rec. Lewes Town Councillors and officers helped the organisers of parkrun get the Lewes event launched, and the Brewcafe based in Malling Community Centre provides a welcome retreat for those who need a coffee after their run. Find out more on the parkrun website.
Lewes Town Councillors and staff recently were visited by the One You East Sussex team for a session of NHS Health Checks and support everybody eligible in the town to get a Health Check. These sessions are for those aged 40 to 74 who do not have a pre-existing health condition. NHS Health Checks are usually scheduled by invitation from your GP every five years but if you think you are eligible but have not been invited, contact your GP surgery to find out if they offer NHS Health Checks or find out more via One You East Sussex. Some pharmacies also offer NHS Health Checks.
